DINOSAURS?!

Term 1 of Set 3 Animals finished with a ROAR as our junior group looked to find Dinosaurs in the bible!

After songs and prayer, we read the scriptures Job 40:15-24, that has a description of 'Behemoth' and then the children drew fantastic pictures of what they thought Behemoth might have looked like in their scrapbooks. Next we painted a paper mache dinosaur and crocodile while discussing all things dinosaur (I think crocodiles have been around since pre-historic times). I made these from recycled containers and a lot of masking tape, before adding the paper mache.

While the paint was left to dry we read Job 41:1-34 that describes Leviathan and the students drew pictures of what they thought Leviathan might have looked like. Followed by a game of 'sleeping dinosaurs'.....which is exactly the same as 'sleeping bears'...except they are dinosaurs which apparently snore louder and curl up to go to sleep. Lots of fun :-)

Books of the Bible

Hello to 2015! Over the Christmas break I had the pleasure of seeing one of our fabulous Sunday School teachers, teaching a group of children the books of the Bible. I wanted to share this Old Testament song with you because somehow we are able to remember a lot when it is attached to a song! And they would go really well with our Set 2 Term 4 'Music' set of lessons or perhaps like Leanne did you could use them at a camp or another time you are looking for something to do with the kids.

After learning the songs Leanne had the children in two teams and gave them each a set of word cards for the books of the bible and each team was asked to place them in the correct order. This was an excellent way for them to practice applying what they had learnt to assist them in putting it to memory. Happy singing :-)

I have also attached another resource Leanne used which is a story and picture clues that help children learn the New testament Books of the Bible. She created story cards and told the story to the students. It is a really great way of introducing these books and give them some visual and verbal clues to help them remember. Good one Leanne!

Parable of the great feast

Hello everybody! I had a great lesson last month with our junior primary class on the topic of 'The Great Feast' (Set 2, Lesson 5). I told the class that I had invited some very important people to a party today and that I needed their help to prepare decorations and food. Excited the children proceeded to blow up balloons, make party hats, throw streamers, lay the table with a table cloth, special plates and food I had bought for us. We then sat at the table and waited...............and waited...............and waited................. Funnily enough no-one turned up! At that point I had to tell the children it was a game (perhaps I should have done that earlier :-/).

We decided to make some more invitations and go out and invite some people to our party. I had set up earlier an array of teddies, the poor, maimed and blind, on the highways and the hedges, that I then led the students too. They each invited at least one guest and together we all had a feast and a great discussion about the 'Parable of the Great Feast'. Afterwards we watched these funny clips of the story and then did some craft together before packing up and finishing. Good times :-)
